Fuel Pump push rod

I am trying to remove the fuel pump push rod. There is a metal plate (not sure how to describe) that restricts the rod from coming out. Does that plate come out, is there a tool for removal or is it just stuck because of age? Help

With out the info like what year etc it would be hard to point you in the right direction. If it's your 37 ask on the early V8 section.

Ive never seen a metal plate there. Only thing there is a 4-5" long baffel which is inserted after the rod is dropped in and is about 1 1/2" diameter. Length depends on wether you have a alum intake =4" one//// cast iron intake uses the 5" long one. I have some NOS script rods and know i have some 4" baffels not sure if i have any 5" left,id have to look. ken ct.
