Fuel pump pressure

I have assumed from all the good information on this site that fuel pump pressure for the 97 is best about 2-3. When a new, say 1938 Ford left the factory, were pump pressures significantly higher? When CharlieNY set my last pump at about 2-1/2, I wonder what he does to adjust from a higher pressure. Maybe "tricks of the trade"??

There is no adjustment other than the tension of the spring itself. New pumps today tend to have stronger springs, so save your old springs for use on newer pumps.
