Is it ok to try and turn over a motor that hasn't started in 15 years with out gas hooked up to the fuel pump ? Also is it ok to turn over the engine with the fuel pump removed ?
I thought I would hook up tubing for a gas line to the carburetor from a small portable tank positioned level or a little higher than the carb.

I would go no lower than the top edge of the carb. I used a small lawn mower tank worked for around the block run. Ran out once but it was down hill back to the garage.lol ken ct.

Sounds great; the pump diaphram probably wouldn't handle the modern fuel anyway! I need to do the same thing to a restored '35, that has sat since '85. Newc

Don't get in a hurry to start or even turn over an engine that has sat for years. Get a parts washer gun, about $12.00 at the parts store and a quart of Maevel Mytery Oil. Remove the plugs and spray MMO in all the cylinders and open the throatle plates in the carb and spray down in there good. If the engine turns, turn it one turn and spray it again. Let it sit over night and turn it a few times and spray again. This will loosen the rings plus clean and lubricate the valves. Soaking the rings frees them and loosens carbon. I have done engines that sat 50 years and they all ran good. When you go to start it use starting fluid, they start better on that the first time. I just started my 39 P/U that sat for over 2 years, It didn't turn more than 3 times and fired right up this morning. G.M.
