Fuel pump help needed

Hi. On my 239 french flat, I wanted a fuel pump with a glass bowl instead of the original one.

I checked on an old 59L I had, same tickness at the rear of the intake, same stand and same pushrod. So I assume, same lobe on the french camshaft.

Now, to fit the new pump, I had to shortening the pushrod about 1/5 of an inch. The contact point on the french pump is higher than the US one.

Did I use a wrong pump ? I don’t remember where I bought it. It has 1/2 20 UNF fitting thread.

Thank you for your help

That pump looks just like the one I just bought from Rock Auto. It had 1/2-20 straight fine threads. I thought that was odd since any of my original pumps across different auto manufactures had pipe threads or inverse flare. Had to spend $30 for unique fittings.

Ford changed their fuel pump fittings to NPT sometimes during the 1950-1951 time period, It has caused no end of confusion, , but once you understand that there was a change, it can be compensated for. I don't have the details right at hand; perhaps someone else does.

I did the opposite. I put a French Flathead fuel pump on my 8RT (8BA) and had to change fittings and make new fuel lines. I also had a gap where it bolted to my pump stand but I was able to work around that.

I didn't alter my pump pushrod length. It's been working since 2017.

Here's a link to my intstallation. Maybe it shows something that might help in the pics??

the original pump on my '41 went bad, and it didn't have a glass bowl and i wanted one with a glass bowl. and i ended up buying two different ones before i got one to fit. ford, it appears, modified their pumps a...er...few times over the years. and the reproductions are not all the same as a consequence. and the advertising associated with them as to what they fit is not all that accurate. fortunately, the reproductions are not very expensive.

so now i'm the proud owner of an original one that doesn't work. a new reproduction that doesn't fit and a third one that works and fits!

BTW, the first thing i looked at was the inside of the base plate and the gasket to make certain they were the same. the fitment issue i had with the first one i bought had to do with the glass bowl interfering with something on the manifold or somewhere near it such that it wouldn't lay flat. it was one of those "...close, but no banana..." situations. :)
