Fuel line question

Well, since I started this, I should do a little update. This afternoon I rolled the ol' girl outside in the nice, bright Arizona sun for a good look at the gas line.
A couple of months ago I had removed the carb so I was looking at the actual end connections today and I see that I apparently had indeed used teflon tape sometime in the past. I removed it all and will hand brush the threads clean before installing the new '97'.
The end on the actual steel gas line has a large threaded "nut" that has the worst buggered shoulders on it. I was going to use my pipe cutter and remove it today but then realized that if I did, that then the tube would be too short to reach the carb itself. Can I cut it and install some kind of hose to make up the distance and be safe or will I have to just remove the current steel line and install a new complete gas line?
It will be a few more days before I get back to the carb project as now it is back to re-wiring the tailights and installing the replacement gas tank.

Just remove the old line [carb to pump] and purchase a new one steel or copper both will work. All vibration is taken up by the flex line between the pump and main line. Its your choice. omo. ken ct.

Ken Ct, I really want to send you a pic ot this line and connection I am speaking of. However, I still cannot find a button to allow me to attach the photo of it I took this afternoon. Maybe I can just send it in a PM... I will check...
Anyway, once you see the photo, my question is: Can I just cut it off and get a new brass connector or is this a different part of the line than what you were speaking of to "remove the old line" and the flex of the "flex line"?
I do not want to cut the wrong thing and then have to run my kid trick of clear plastic line. Bad thing to do...
Let me see now if I can get a pic to you via the PM side...

Ken Ct.. Nope, I guess I am not authorized to send photos on Ford Barn. I can send it via regular email if you want.

In the meantime, I will try to figure out if I can EVER be allowed to send photos on this forum. I belong to other forums and have no trouble sending photos on them so I believe it is this system that is "glitched" up.

It will allow me to send it IF I had it on some http:// website but it is not...

The original line from carb to FP is around 15" long,if you cut any of it off it probebly wont be long enough any more to connect it back up. The short flex line is about 10" long from the pump to the fire wall main line. That takes up all movement between the engine moving around when running and the firewall which is relitively stable.NOT telling you to use copper from carb to pump one, BUT ive used a copper one on my 36 for at least 20 yrs now and have driven it about 50,000 mi and never had a bit of trouble with it.That line is too short to vibrate and there is NO movement between the pump and carb anyway. There both bolted solidly to the engine, how is this line going to vibrate.OMO and my experiance. I dont need pics i know what you have. The best fittings can be gotten from Jerry Grayson on here.Lawson Cox has his #. I have it but cant find it.Hes in the roster of the EFV8CA hes in Ga. ken ct. Ken, I am on the main fuel line from the tank to the engine bay of my '34.
It is the end of that fuel line that has the chewed up fitting that I want to replace.

thirt4, you can attach pics by this method:
Type your message in the reply box at the end of a thread as usual.
Hit the "Go Advanced" button.
Scroll down to "Additional Options".
Hit the "Manage Attachments" button.
From the pop up window, hit the "Choose File" button.
From the drop down window, choose the location of the file you want. (I usually have a file on my desktop ready to go)
Choose the file. (jpeg pictures work good)
See that the file is identified on the pop up window.
Hit the upload button on the pop up window.
See that the file is identified on the "Manage Attachments".
Hit the "Preview Post" button.
You should see a thumbnail pic in the preview.
You're good to go.

PS~ Good thing I deleted the pic I practiced with... Lawson's womens wouldn't go well on this website! :D

Thank you ford38v8. I will give it a try on a future thread. I see what you are describing now.
I am going to probably just cut the tip off this line, find a new squeeze bushing and brass nut online and see if I can stretch the line enough to reach. I might have to use a pipe stretcher but I will make it work somehow.
