Fuel line and manifold

I just replaced the exhaust gasket and wanted to know if I just missed a section of the Les Andrews book on the process of replacing the gasket. My other question is when I took the carb off and now putitback on the fuel line was very tight going into the carb and also still is leaking, any thoughts as to why? Oh it's a Tilly carb

I just installed a Tilllie carb this evening (need to get the Zenith rebuilt) anyway, I would recommend installing a new ferrell on your fuel line before trying to install the gas line onto the carb...make sure it does not cross thread! This is what I ended up doing on my Tillie this evening to get it to stop leaking. The new ferrell took care of the problem for me.......Good luck ! Donald

I have no Idea if you missed a step, but i'm guessing you cross threaded the fuel line. Especially if it went hard from thread 1. Chuck

When ever I remove and replace a carburetor, I don't tighten the flange bolts until I am sure that the gas line fitting is fitting properly and not cross threaded. I then tighten the carb to the manifold.

I guess I'm confused about what you mean by exhaust gasket.. Are you talking about the intake/exhaust manifold gasket or one of those aftermarket exhaust manifold/exhaust pipe gaskets..
As far as the fuel line, I too leave the carburetor a bit loose as well as the firewall end of the fuel line..

keeping the connection very loose at the firewall will allow proper tension free alignment of the fuel line so it wont be pulling the line at an angle thus allowing seepage . also i agree with the above post that says to use a new ferrell that way the compression of the brass is exact for the new fuel line angle that occures with the bending and unbending of the line that happens when the firewall side is left tight.

TIP # 769***Always carry string in your tool kit. When fuel line cracks at ferrule, you can "wind" a ferrule and get home very safely! Bill W.

I'll have to check that this weekend, I have to write a paper this weekend for school then I will check it again this weekend. If I have cross threaded something, is the carb ruined? I am trying to find some spare parts to keep on hand, I just can't see buying a whole carb from Brattons, or another place.

Ok everything looks good except I cannot get the carb adjusted right and it backfires at the carb, what would make it do that? Should I rebuild it?

Check the top of the carb. Tillie's are very prone to warping where they bolt up. This can cause a massive vacuum leak.

I'll have to check that out, how tight should the carb be? Mine has had the threads stripped but I put nuts under the carb to tighten it up

I checked the top of the carb and sure enough it was warped so I filed it down a bit and then rebuilt the carb and put it back on and it runs like a top. But for some reason the screw that adjusts the throttle opening is too short, anyone know what type of screw would work by any chance, the reason it's too short is that when my throttle control on the steering wheel has to been down a bit or it shuts off
