can someone tell me what size tubing to use on a stock 46 mercury and where does the fuel come out of a new tank. the new tank does not have a opening at the bottom. thank you

On the Ford versions, the fuel line opening is on the side below the filler neck. Don't know if the Mercury is the same.

Mercury is the same. The line goes into the tank on the driver’s side below the filler neck. I bought my fuel line from Thirdgen… copper plated steel. I think the Thirdgen website calls out the diameter of the tubing.

1/4” if I remember correctly.

Yes, they are ¼” rolled steel/copper. Still available from the suppliers, still made by the same manufacturer. HOWEVER, a much better product is available today, more expensive, but easier to work with and will last forever: Cupronickle is an alloy of copper and nickle, does not oxidize or degrade, is easy to bend and form, and is available as ¼” tubing, visibly almost identical to original.

X2 on Alan's recommendation for the material. That's what I used on both my 42 and 46 fuel lines. Very easy to work with. You will need the correct fittings and ferrules. Third gen should have them. I have Drake tanks in both vehicles and had no issue except the original sender will not work in them. While you are doing the job replace the rubber line going to the fuel pump. Even if it looks o.k. the can cavitate.
