fuel leak

Howdy, just about to try fixin a leak at the steering bracket on my 29 fourdoor. It looks like the old rivets seep just a little, not enough to drip, just seep enoughf to smell and see. When i move the wheel there is just a small amont of play in the braket to tank. I do not want to remove tank now (i know i should) but just rig it. Anyone ever weld the bracket or use a goop/ putty. Not looking for show quality or nothin, i just drive em. Any suggestions before i hack at it? thanks, Sam

If not repaired properly, it will continue to get worse as time and rattling goes on. I don't think it is worth the possiblilty of a lap full of gas someday, to justify a cheap sloppy repair.

Probably the tank is cracked under the bracket. They do that from people pulling themselves in the seat using the steering wheel. I would recheck very carefully to see if this may be the cause

I suggest you try to adapt the late 31 steering column bracket to your car. They are an easy fit on 30-31 cars, but require some shimming on early cars. Bratton's and Snyder's sell them.

im probably the best mickey mouse artist there is, but even i wont mickey mouse a gas leak, stop and think about it, the leak was caused by the pulling on the steering when when entering your car, will that stop when the tank is mickey mouse repaired? do you have any idea what can happen if not repaired correctly?, gas dripping into the body over nite? there goes your car and most likely your house and may be your loved ones. what will happen when your on a trip at 45 miles per hour and suddenly the tank ruptures in your lap, all it would take is a spark and your toast, spend a day, pull the tank, you dont have to be a master mechanic to pull it, have it welded, brazed, whatever it takes to fix the leak right, then use the 31 bracket that bolts to the coloum and dash as was stated by another member on here, doing that you will never have another leak, you have to much to loose to just patch the tank, ok, sermon over
