Fuel gauge problem 1938 Ford

I just bought a 1938 Ford Standard and it appears that the fuel gauge wire is disconnected to the tank sending unit. I found a wire in the rear harness but its hot all the time & I'm afraid to connect it to the sending unit. (Remember this is 6 volt positive ground) Do I connect it and have it hot even with the ignition switch off or should I rewire it to switch on only?

Thanks,
Max

It should not be hot with the ignition switch off.

Lanny, if you use the "new post" button above all posts from all areas show up.

Maybe why only two people replied to this thread.

hey Tinker, I guess I would rather steer the newbys straight to the right section where they will get the maximum help from the membership here, as this is for Questions and Suggestions to the Editors.
We don't need 2 sections for answering vehicle related questions, as that is what the General Discussion is for.
I would like to see the Mods close this section, as it just confuses some New members, as to where to ask for help, and the Mods don't seem to come here to answer the Few questions ask directly to them anyway.
Just my 2¢ worth. :)
