fuel gauge and sending units

With all the problems we have trying to get the old ford fuel gauges to work with aftermarket sending units, I wonder if this would work ? I saw this in the speedway catalog. I thought maybe it may help me with the gauge and sender in my coupe. anyone know any thing about it, or has any one tried one? comments welcome. Thanks----Jim

I bet it will NOT work with the old King-Seely units. $129 is too much of a gamble to find out.

I have not bought one yet, because of the price. was hoping someone had experience, or more information on it. I have not done a thorough ck as to why the fuel gauge on my 30 coupe does not work. It has a 36 dash with restored gauges and an aftermarket tank in the trunk. do not know who made the sending unit, and will have to remove the tank to ck it. I did try a separate ground but no change. I will get around to it eventually. my bad back makes it hard to crawl up under the dash on it as it is chopped 3" and channeled 3". I was thinking that it might be the answer for the guys with the old King -Seely units, that is one reason I posted it here.---Jim
 
Thanks Dobie, I was going to post over there if I did not get any response here. I guess it may be what I need. will have to think on it awhile, hate to spend that much money and not work. I am retired and on a fixed budget. not poor, but certainly not rolling in money. ------Jim

I googled "fuel gauge interface module" just to see what's out there. They all look the same and the cheapest I found so far is $125 + s&h. I guessing there's only one manufacturer.
 
I've never seen this interface module, but from experience, if you are still 6 volt you are best to use an original KS sender. If you have converted to 12 volt negative, which this unit appears to be for, simply mimic the King Seeley post 1956 system by reducing the voltage prior to the gauge then using the standard 78-10 sender. It worked from 1957 until the 1980's and that's what we do in our shop.

My vehicle is a 1930 Ford coupe with a 1936 Ford dash and gauges and a custom tank and an unknown sending unit. car is 12 volts. would have to remove tank ( major operation ) to get to the sending unit. I have not had a chance to properly trouble shoot why my gauge is not working. I have a bad back and knee, it is very difficult for me to get up under the dash of a chopped and channeled model A. Eng. is y-block Ford. I ask about this because depending what I find wrong, this may be the easy way out for me. I also posted it here because I see a lot of posts about incompatible , or erroneous, reading fuel gauges after a sending unit has been replaced. I see this a lot on the 55-57 fords. Jim, I doubt very much if that $129 unit will work with your original FORD gauge.
Give MORRIS GAUGE a call. I bet they can tell you the truth. I see where they do post on Fordbarn now and then when there is a gauge question.

In the 36 dash, you have an early version of the King Seeley bi-metallic thermally actuated gauge. Those ones like to be run off the original points type King Seeley sending units. In the shop, we find that most of the King Seeleys like a calibration tweek regardless of using an original sender in a 6 volt system, or a modern 78-10 sender with a solid state voltage drop for a 12 volt system. Many of my customers have been dissatisfied with the aftermarket "drop in" senders, but I cannot speak to all units available. Depending on what the life of your gauge has been, some are damaged by 12 volt conversions and aftermarket senders. Once the bimetallic strip has been overheated, or the thermal wire insulation has been cooked off, the gauge will never calibrate correctly. Not knowing what you have there, it's hard to advise you on your next move.
