Front stabilizer bar

My friend wants to put a 40 front stabilizer bar on his 38 deluxe. He has all the necessary 40 parts, perch bolts, swivels & complete bar assembly. Has anyone done this job before? What problems might we have? Thanks .

I have a 40 front sway bar in my 35 and 39 - works great, looks great - no problems with the install - we did have to replace 2 rivets with bolts for the install to the frame location.

I have done several of these. To attach the bar brackets you will need to remove one frame rivet and drill one hole in the frame on each side. That is the easy part. The nasty part is removing your existing axle pins and replacing them with the '40-'41 pins. Unless the old pins have been removed before you will find that they DO NOT like to come out. If this turns out to be the case you need to pull the wishbone-axle assembly and take the entire assembly to a machine shop. Usually, the pin will need to be heated and several tons of pressure applied before the pin gets the idea to come out!

A couple of photos enclosed of a '40 sway bar installed on a '35. This would be the same as a '38

Hope this helps

You have a good eye! Yes, they are Delco-Lovejoy shocks. They are truly a bullet proof bolt-on shock that (in my opinion), will out perform any stock shock. They ride great, handle even better, don't leak and virtually require no maintenance. I have them on all four corners. In my opinion they are a much better choice for early Fords than a tube shock conversion.
