Front Spring

The Ford Price List of Parts says 8 leaf front spring is for '26/'27, 7 leaf for earlier. My '26 Runabout has 7 leaves and I'm pretty sure it has not been changed.
I thought body style might be a factor, as in more leaves for heavier enclosed models.

Springs got replaced quite a bit in the early days of bad roads. how can you guess it hasn't been replaced in 1932?

I can't be sure. I have had the car since 1966. The previous owner bought it in 1953 from the original owner. I have not found anything on it that was an obvious change.
The front and rear springs were deeply worn from dirt and gravel road use.
You are correct. They could have been changed.

If that spring broke in 1928 it might have been replaced with one from the wrecking yard off an earlier year car and would account for everything including the extreme wear. You can rebuild the existing one or buy a 7 or 8 leaf spring. You might like the ride better with 7 leaves.

Ford used parts in the assembly process till they were used up for change to improved parts. Some earlier parts may have been used up in the 1926 model run. Newer parts may have taken longer to be obsoleted at different assembly plants. It just depends on the time frame the new parts started production and how long it took them to get to the assembly plants.
