Front Spring

I have a 1931 Model A Pickup. I think the front spring may need to be replaced due to the truck leans to the left. Does anyone know any measurements or other ways to see if the spring needs to be replaced.

This winter I put a new font spring on my 1931 closed cab wide bed. The truck sits level and is a little higher in front. It also rides much better.Bit of a job as I have repro knees and can't kneel. but well worth the effort.

Does the tie rod rub the drag link? That's one symptom of a bad frt spring. An issue in the back can make the front dip and be uneven beware.

One of my friend's "A"'s had that problem and he fixed it by disassembling the springs and reversing every other leaf. That leveled it out again.

Try tightening the bolts on the opposite side of the lean. The ones that hold the spring to the frame. FWIW

The measurement from the center of the bumper to ground is supposed to be 18 inches give or take 1/2 in.

Mine is leaning pretty bad to the left. I was told it's the front spring. I know the clearance between the spring eye and the axle is way to close.

No it does not rub. Just leans to the left real bad. Almost two inches different from side to side

Play with the tightening of the U bolts.
Loosen them up and then tighten the high side first and if that starts to level it out.
Easiest first method to try and fix it.
Tightening sequence is the trick and check your rear U bolts as well...
If no luck follow other folks directions.

Thanks everyone for the advice,I'll try the u-bolts but I am probably going to replave the spring, shackles and U-bolts. I let you know how I make out.

Good point and it makes me appreciate my worn but still functional NOS knees! I wear knee pads when working around the car or in the yard - it really makes a difference in how you feel at the end of the day!

One side may be rusted to the point whereby one side "slips" better than the other.

Remove the spring; take it all a part; grind a small radius under the ends of each leaf; grind and polish where the grooves were; paint the underside of each leaf with molybdenum disulfide grease; reassemble and your leaning will probably be gone.

ive also heard of loosening front and rear u bolts then standing and bouncing on the pass side to level the car up then tighten in the criss cross pattern front and rear.
