Front spring question

This is the front end out of a chassis I just picked up. Why are the upper spring leaves square? Were just some replaced? The upper three are even wider. Should I replace the whole spring or is it usable is taken apart and cleaned.

It looks like some one added or replaced some leaves[ maybe some were broken] at some time.. He didn't get them matched very well, did he ??

i would chamfer & taper all but the top one as you do when working on it . lube & remount .............

It is hard to 100% sure, but the taper on the longer leaves does not appear to be factory. The seem too short. The taper used by all the known Ford springs is different then all I have seen on era and later aftermarket springs.

It is necessary for both sides of the top leaf to be ground at an angle so that they fit correctly into the sides of front cross member. Gar Williams
