Front Splash Apron and Welting

Hi,

What Color is the Front Splash Apron Painted? Black or Body color? I looked in
the Judging standards but could not find information about this. Perhaps it's there, but I missed it.

Also, the Judging standards indicates that only the rear fenders are to be fitted with welting. The front fenders and running boards do not have any, with the excepting of the 1930's unique running board aprons. And this welting is smaller than the standard 3/16 fender welt.

However, nearly all Model A's I've seen have both the front fender and running board welting installed.

Is this correct? What's the story?

Thanks for your help

The Radiator (splash) Apron was painted black with the rare exception of a fleet-concern vehicle.

The running board to fender did not have Anti-Squeak (welting) material installed. Follow the Judging Stds as there are VERY few errors in that book. Looking and listening to other hobbyists as to what is correct can be false information simply because they likely have not studied from original Ford-produced information.

The OP mentioned the unique running board apron of the 1930. Where is this smaller welting installed as the front part of the 1930 apron is spot welded on the rear or longer part. Confused. Would it be between the small part of the apron and the front fender> Jack

Don't forget the felt pad on the backside of your splash apron. Some years had 2 pieces and I think yours had one.

Hi,
Interesting that your aprons are spot welded. Mine are bolted together and I am just now putting things back together after painting. I believe that the 1930 aprons are supposed to have a small bead welting (same size as the gas tank welting) that snakes its way between the front fender and the apron.
