Front skuttle need sealer.28-9 pickup

Hi folks,at the moment iam putting the two parts of the skuttle together,the front part too the door pillers. when this is bolted together is it recommended
to put a sealer inbetween the two parts before bolting it up. My thoughts are that its a great place to get moisture in between the two parts. Many thanks .

I didn't put any sealer in mine (just thin welting) and have had no problems since I did it 25 years ago.

Aha! If you watch this film, there is a moment showing the skuttle being mated with the body pillars, and I don't see any sealant.

I think it comes from the fact that early open cars cowls looked like coal skuttles laid on their sides and may have been used on this side of the pond in the early years by some car makers.
