A friend has asked me to see what we can learn about the stamped number on the fronT sill, subframe crossmember: F5820
I agree with Steve on the number assessment. My 9-27-28 has a very low TC number and my 2-23-29 Tudor has a pretty high TC number. Not many people wanted to buy an open car while living in a cold state, when you could buy a Tudor for very little more. The "F" designation indicates the car was probably built at the Rouge. The body number has been debated. My opinion is that body numbers were assigned consecutively to each body style. Is the car a '28? For example, A189 has a body number of F52. Given the fact that the engine was sent to assembly on 11/25/27, I doubt it was the 52nd body built but it could very well be the 52nd roadster body assembled at the Rouge. The engine was the 456th released to assembly. Given that coupes, sport coupes, phaetons, tudors and a few trucks were also being built, it makes this theory plausible at least to me.
Some folks also think the "F" was also assigned to Canadian production (Windsor?) but I'm unsure of this as I no very little about assembly there.
