Front motor mounts

What is the best way to install new springs and rubber gasket is the front motor mount of a 29 pickup? I have read you can either jack the motor up enough to clear the bottom bolt from the cross member or block the motor and remove the motor mount bolts from the top.

Yes to both, although for the bracket you'll have to undo THREE bolts - i.e. basically taking the bracket off.

That is unless you want to jack your engine dangerously high and run the risk of cracking your flywheel housing (you still may want to loosen those flywheel housing to frame support bolts before doing anything to raise the engine.)

Were it me, I would loosen the rear bolts on the flywheel housing frame juncture. Then put a jack under the oil pan and lift the engine slightly. Maybe half an inch or even less? Then undo the bottom center bolt where the front bracket mounts to the crossmember.

I don't really see a need to undo the radius rods from the flywheel housing. There is a fair amount of flex here in the ball joint/rubber whatever you may be using.

Then with the lower front bracket unbolted and the spring removed, at the top/fan area unbolt the two bolts attaching the front bracket to the front cover of the engine.

This will give you all the wiggle room to take out the bracket, clean it up and give it a coat of paint if necessary, put the new rubber pad(s) and springs (and maybe washers) in place, and bolt everything back up again.

Hope this helps. Not a big deal if you have a scissor jack or even a pump hydraulic piston jack.

Put a wooden board between the jack and the oil pan...

When I removed the bottom nut and tried to raise the motor, the bottom bolt of the motor mount was so tight against the front of the hole in the cross member it didnt budge. Any suggestions?

Loosen up the 2 bolts that hold the mount to the front of the engine. This will give it wiggle room and if that doesnt work but the bottom nut on a few turns and jack up a little pressure on that it should pop it up it could just be caught on the threads slightly

So, can I somehow center the bolt and if so how ? I'm a rookie at this but I would think the bottom of the mount is meant to float in the opening based on the size of the hole. It the bolt has pressure on the cross member it would seem to be the cause of some of my vibration issues. I would rather not cut out the opening but I can if necessary to relieve the pressure. Also, I read that some of the repo front motor mounts do not have an offset that the original ones had. Is this true? If so, this may be the cause.

un bolt the front bracket 3 bolts and it should come out. also loosen the 4 rear motor mount bolts to fly wheel housing. it may shift enought to give you the proper clearance
