front motor mount

Yesterday I attempted to change the front motor mount on my 1930 coupe to the original style mount. My current mount is a rubber style mount in the center and springs on the sides. The rubber mount is large enough that it sits under the pulley making it almost impossible to change the belt. I attempted to jack the motor under the oil pan but was afraid to jack it up too high. My question is; how far can I safely lift the motor without damaging anything?

You can lift it high enough to remove the front mount if you remove the two top bolts and loosen the two lower bolts at the rear engine mounts. Try too hard without giving it some play and you could crack the flywheel housing.

Either remove or watch carefully the accelerator shaft that goes across the top of the bell housing. It's better to just remove it, you could bend it....ask me how I know....

I just did mine, also removing the aftermarket mount. I removed the lower rear mount bolt and loosened the top one. Watch the back of the motor as mentioned for binding and possible damage. I raised the motor quite a bit and higher than I thought possible.
Remove the two bolts that mount the yoke to the motor and it will come right out.
replace the motor mount parts, put the yoke back in and attach everything and tighten.
You may have to push the motor down manually (depending on the tightness of the top rear mount bolts) to get the yoke nut to start. Good luck!
