Front motor mount springs

Marco,
On the '30 coupe I sold, I ran Float-A- Motors in front, rear, and at rear of transmission, no problems, very smooth, even up to 75 MPH. Counter balanced crank, Weber, Mallory dist, etc, 3.78-1 diff, 19" tires, and no overdrive.
I strongly believe that the Model A frame is not nearly as fragile as most folks think.

I just went through this with my engine too. I decided that if H.F. could do it, so could I. The replacement rubber pads that go between the the frame and the motor mounts had little bosses on the pads to get an exact fit in the holes. One by one, with some silicon lube, I got them into the holes.
To keep them there I turned a bolt into the rubber. This expended the rubber and made it stay in the hole. By the time I got the third rubber boss into the holes the rubber stayed in place long enough to put the outside pads and plates on. Just put the 5/16 bolts in and tighten them up,Job done! I am very leary about removing stock from the frame for any reason. Just my $.02.

The picture was shot from a misleading angle! There IS large rubber pads between mount and crossmember, also rubber pads BELOW the crossmember. Trick is to enlarge crossmember holes, using a Harbor Freight Uni-Bit, to 1 inch in order for rubbers to "squish" into holes in order to insulate through bolt from touching crossmember. VERY smooth when installed in this manner. Original front mounting system is "VERY MICKEY MOUSE," but if you're a Purist, you're stuck with it!
