Front Fender Brackets

When I read the judging standards (page 4-7) it states "Mid-1928 through late 1929 forged fender brackets had round ends without a boss on the outer end."

Two sentences later it states that "From Jan 1929 through the end of production, the front and rear fender brackets were stamped steel".

It appears that the forged brackets required one hole that was larger than the other two whereas the stamped ones used three identical diameter holes. Were all the frames drilled with one larger hole in 1929 and therefore either forged or stamped could be used on a given frame?

the holes were the same diameter,
it was the length of the bolts that changed
the forged brackets were thicker than the stamped brackets

Hunter,
I think you are right in that all 28/29 frames had a larger hole in the bottom, so either type bracket could be used. I have a 29 frame I am using for my late 28 (I changed the runningboard brackets to the forged type) and it has the large hole on the bottom. I suspect the two types of brackets were used at assembly plants for some time until they ran out of the forged type.

BTW, my early 29 phaeton had forged front fender brackets and stamped rear brackets.
