front brake back plate

question. the donut shaped felt wafer used in the front brakes. it seems the best place for that to go is between the end of the king pin and the back plate where it goes horizontal and the wedge shaft runs throughis this correct?

there is 2 felts. one is under a cup washer true, but that goes between the axle and spindle (second path through spindle). im talking about the small dime size one.

Yes, I put them between the king pin bottom and backing plate. I've found that I usually have to slice them in half, so they are thin enough to fit the tight space.

but where on that operating shaft? it has a hole in the center. i thought it should go at the end of the king pin between the back plate.

I could never get the felt jammed inside the kingpin and if I did it would bind too much on the operating pin. It only makes sense to me that the felt should fill the open space between the bottom of the kingpin and the lip on the backing plate. Nothing will bind and it will keep out dirt and water.

It's pretty sad when a prominent supplier doesn't even know where a part goes! As others said, it's on top of the hole in the brake housing (backing plate) where the rod enters.
