The Restorer Vol 42 Issue 2 gives all the body bolt placement and bolt dimensions, and body block drawings for most Model 'A's. My issue is the very first body bolt under the firewall. I refer now to page 30, 1930 Phaeton which I am currently writing a book about. The first bolt is stated to be 3/8" x 24 x 2 1/4" hex head bolt. It is the bolt length that troubles me. How could a 2 1/4" bolt be used to hold the cowl to the frame, where there is only a rubber pad separating the two? It need be only about 1 1/4" at most. I restored a 1930 Phaeton in 1986, but I can't remember what I used. The car was sold many years ago. Any ideas would be welcome.
I always use the Restorer as my "Bible" but now I will be more careful if this is an error, as it appears on all the "open car" drawings. The bolt length stated, would be correct for 28/29, as the cowl sits on a body block, but not a 30/31 vehicle. Maybe I am barking up the wrong tree.
Any ideas folks?
