Got the current issue of Hagerty Insurance's publication 'Driver's Club' and our beloved V8 is a bold cover shot. Of course I noticed the merc heads right away. I also like the stock appearance and the fact that it looks like it's installed in a well used 'driver' . Front mounts indicating a '53? My wife just put it in my hands and I have not yet read the article about Henry's V8 and it's role in the hot rod craze in the US.

I read the article, expecting the usual hack job on facts. I was pleasantly surprised at the tons of facts presented, admittedly most of which I could neither verify nor put the lie to. This author did some impressive research before writing his story. If you don’t have Hagerty, beg, borrow or steal a copy of this month’s Driver’s Club. I guarantee you’ll learn a few things about the Flathead.

The Hagerty magazine does favor the high dollar collector car market but it is quite well done all in all. I did enjoy the lengthy V8 article and would also recommend reading it if you can get ahold of one.

I'm a hagerty guy, but a few years ago I learned if you drop the magazine you save about 75 bucks a year. While my interest is certainly our old fords, It was fun to see the articles about old stuff I lusted when I was a teenager like the 66 cobras, or ford gt40's, but I drew the line with the issue a few years back about the low riders of Houston with the tire ripper spinners sticking about a foot from the wheel, and drive reports for a gremlin.

Then you add in the factor that its another glossy paper thing that don't burn worth a ****, and lays around till I figger out how to dispose of it (no garbage man here, its me)
so...I dumped it.

When somebody is finished with their copy….I have some “FORD TIMES “ I’ll trade for that issue of Hagerty’s Drivers Club…..Thanks……Mark

...Front mounts indicating a '53?

Backdraft carburetors were used 49-51, as were the water pumps with the big side ears.
52-53 Mercuries used the odd carburetor where the air cleaner is the air horn, and used the same water pumps as 50-53 Fords.
