french flathead

To answer your question busmania, yes it is a complete engine. looks to be in good condition. I wish it did not have a 24 volt starter, that is why I have not done a compression test yet. I really like that it has a 8ba front and a 59a rear. should fit nicely in my 37 phaeton--if I ever get to the point of putting it ii in.

You can wire two 12v batteries in series to get 24v for the starter.

Some clarification here. The flywheel is the same as a 59A. The only difference is the teeth on the ring gear are chamfered on the opposite corner. This is to cater for the French pre engaged starter shooting in from the front rather than the ford starter pulling in from the rear.

The French ring gear might be dislodged by a ford starter due to the lack of the chamfer on that side of the ring gear. As an experiment I rechamfered some French flywheels with French ring gears, but I haven't tried running one yet. They now have chamfers on both sides.
