Free starts

I never have. Just on coils. The engine must be turning to break the points with a distributor.

If you move the timing lever it will "break" the points. I don't have a distributer on my T's but this method has worked occasionally on a 1930 Chevy by pulling the timing retard knob out.

I want a free start! Always read about them but have never experienced it. I now have a T with coils and mag. The other three at distributor driven.

I get them frequently by shutting the car off with the timing all the way advanced. When I return to the car, I turn the key on battery and retard the timing quickly and it will usually fire. I suppose others may have a different method, but this works for me.

p.s. Great Schnauzer picture. We have two of the critters.

I thought I discovered something but thats what I do. For kicks I can
get about 10 in a row. I always beleived those free starts are a
healthy enging

Easiest way I have found to get a free start is when I want to show someone how to crank start it....never fails!

My free starts are when I have stopped on an incline. Either forward or reverse, roll and pop the clutch.. I call them silent starts. I'm a friend of the model T group. Cheers, Byron W.
