After the mainfold issue is taken care of, I'd just go through the safety items (brakes, steering, tires, etc.) and have fun driving it.

The body tag in one of the photos indicates the body was built by Briggs. The Victoria Association would be very interested in learning more about this car. To date there has never been a Victoria discovered that was built by Briggs. All Victoria's identified so far have been built by Murray. If the tag on your car is original and authentic, you truely have a rare car.

Tom

That is a repro body tag.

Joop

Correct. The Briggs repro body tag must have been put on when my father had her put together back in the '70s. There's no number stamped on the tag, so I don't know the body number.

I just became the next caretaker of a pretty original 31 slant window. I plan on going over the mechanicals and driving it! the worn interior and faded places on the paint give it great character. I say drive it and enjoy it until your hand is forced to do more! There is something magical about an A that has been around the block a time or two and I want to savor my time with mine!

I surely agree with some of the others. Fix the manifold problem, any other fix to be comfortable when driving, and DRIVE YOUR CAR for a good while, I drove "Elmer" some two years before getting serious about disassembly and restoration. Take our advice and you will have lotsa fun enjoying your car. as meantioned, there are many cases where a "freshman" tore the car down and NEVER put it back together and sold it as an inexpensive "Basket Case" Welcome to the wonderful Model A world. I have been here in A-land since 1964. Best regards, and Happy Model A'ing Jim Langley...

Thanks for the advice, folks. It looks like the conventional wisdom is to take it easy, fix one thing at a time, make her safe to drive and bond with her before considering launching into a complete disassembly.

So when I take off the carb to get to the manifolds, I don't necessarily have to re-build the carb, just because it happens to be disconnected...:)
