Frank and Mike are at it again

Since it is first and foremost a TV show, you have to take everything they say and do as being suspect. I watched it when it was first on but I just can't take it anymore.

just wonder how much of pickers is real, somebody has to be filming,I do not know how I would feel if someone or 2 came to my shop with a filming person or crew wanting to buy something last year I had a 29 coupe not great just ok no glass a guy came in offered 5500 for body only nothing else I sold it to him,I ended up selling rest rebuilt chassi fenders hood ect made quite abit,if I did over maybe not, the 6000 coupe to me was a good buy if it is true

I still enjoy seeing some of the things they find, Esp. the old motor cycle,s and cars like the 1930 super sport "A" model.
Plus it get's me away from all the bad news on FOX and CNN for a while, We all need a break from that sometimes.;)

I think Frank got a decent price on the coupe, but some of the crap those two drag home isn't worth the price of the gas. If it weren't for the paycheck from the show, those two guys would still be in Iowa----------picking corn.

Jack

I think the price they paid was reasonable but reclaiming a large profit on it make involve work...hell they could have pushed on the barrett-jackson stage in scottsdale and got 15-20K!!!:)

After reading the other posts, I am glad I have never heard of them. Looks like I have missed nothing. There are advantages I guess to only having over the air antenna TV.

Well stated, it's "Entertainment" I think it is safe to say everyone here would like to go through the stuff they rummage through on the show. I would, and I'd be buying the money makers they walk by. Nobody in their right mind pulls a '33 Chevy grille off a wall and starts dealing on it while letting the 1932 FORD shell and grille hang on the nail next to it. They should run an hour show on the stuff Barry has collected on Storage Wars.
American pickers ans Storage wars. They both give a "projected" value of what they find. I'd like to see an accountant follow them around and report back. Remember there has to be a buyer for each seller. It's entertainment. Pawn stars: nobody ever pawns anything, he just buys and buys.

So this opportunity came along to any of the posters here, judging from the responses I can only assume that you'd turn it down.

Same goes if they came buy and asked you to give up your day jobs to do a "Model A Barn Find" reality show. You'd turn it down because it had to be somewhat scripted and you'd be stuck buying over priced items.

You guys....

Those 'reality shows' are all a big joke. They are carefully planned and rehearsed. The 'items' that Mike and Frank 'discover' are pre-planted and agreed upon ahead of time. The 'reactions' are carefully practiced to get the right affect for the camera.

Where did you come up with information?:confused:

I spoke with one of the guys from Texas that Mike & Frank picked. ;)

He told me that they just showed up. He wasn't told when they were going to arrive. There was not any pre-planted or agreed upon items they would buy. They bought what he wanted to sell them. :D

That's a lot different story than what your telling. :( Just think the "FACTS" need to be presented, not here say.

You left out that he thought is was a deluxe model because it had two tail lights.
I remember Frank saying that. And i think when they got there the owners husband said it was a roadster. One of the factoids printed on the screen said that bumpers were an option, is this true?

I hate them because they always make it seem like they are buying the items for themselves when we know they are in it to turn a profit.Mike is always saying "I gotta have this item". At least on Pawn Stars Rick tells them his half value ( or less)offer is because he has to make a profit .

"American Pickers" is part real and part not real.
Here in Daytona, they stopped at this closed bar and bought a "Pandora's Box" neon sign. Remember that ?
There was, later, an article in our newspaper, that there was an advance team, that visited the owner, two weeks before, but that day of the filming, was the first time that they met Frank and Mike.
Mike found a wad of money in the backroom, which was real. The owner, always hid his money, in an un-obvious spot, at night and had actually forgotten about this cache.
I still enjoy the show very much, even though I know that it is contrived a bit. It is educational.
The guys are not car people and know hardly anything about "A" Models, but they do know their motorcycles and bicyles.
MIKE :)
