Found something neat

I’ve been cleaning out my stepfather’s garage for my mom. He was a mechanic and passed. He was a bit of a horder. His father owned the local mechanic shop in La Mesa during the 40’s/50’s and 60’s. Eventually retiring in the 80’s. The garage is full of tools, old and new. I found a wrench with the Ford script.

Ford cars came new from the factory with tools including a couple of open end wrenches, well into the 40s. The wrenches vary over the years.

See them from time to time at yard sales and on Craigslist. Some are reasonable and some are rusted junk that the seller thinks are made of gold just because they have the Ford script.

Have a mate to that one from my grandfather born in 01. Wife and I never had children so I will just pass everything to a 2nd cousin with the other pieces that's interested in family history. They didn't throw anything away then.

I have a ford script adjustable wrench and one box end. I've not seen the one you have . Cool find, but how is the truck comming? Tim

Old Ford tools are pretty neat (and useful). I am in the process of adding a handrail to the stairs that go the mezzanine in my shop. One of the 2X4's I bought had a staple near where I needed to cut that I decided to remove. Reached into my pliers drawer in my toolbox and grabbed this. I thought I could use the screwdriver on the handle to pry the staple up if the pliers weren't able to grab it.

I think I got them from my dad (who had been a mechanic in the 20's) who had them in his toolbox for the same reason : they're just a damn practical tool.

There's at least 50 1/2" wrenches in the garage. It's the same for every other tool also. It's crazy. I've been consolidating everything to help organize the garage. I haven't really looked at each tool individually. I'll have to start. I have noticed some old Snap-On tools also. I'm looking at 80 plus years of tool accumulation for two mechanics. The garage is packed full. Unfortunately, there's a 59 El Camino parked in the middle that doesn't leave much room to move.

Yup. Some guy at work tried to sell me a "Ford" wrench for some unreasonable price. I laughed and pulled out three vintage Ford Model A tools that are on board my daily driver F150. I have Model T, Model A and V-8 tools. They are easy to come by.

Yes, I carry one of these on my daily driver F-150.
