found a pipe in the oil pan

I removed my oilpan from the model a.

I found the pipe below in it. Threaded on one side.

It looks like a pipe from a main bearing or something like that...
But where do I put this? Does anyone have pictures of this?

This is the pipe that goes from your rear main bearing cap forward and down to return oil from that bearing to the pan. It threads into the rear main bearing cap, but on some that thread has stripped. Try threading it back in, and if it's stripped determine if it's the cap or the tube that is bad. Cap - helicoil (some folks solder them in). Tube - replace it, all the vendors stock it.

BTW, there are two sizes, 3/8" and 5/16". Figure out what you have before you order a new one.

How important is the pipe?
I think he's been driving without it for a while...

anyone have a picture of where this is located?

It serves two purposes but it's main purpose is to keep crankcase pressure from affecting oil flow at the rear main. Without it, it is going to allow some pressure to push the oil aft and out the rear. By putting the tube in the oil, there will be a lower possibility of pressure affecting oil flow out the back.

It keeps any pressurized air in the crankcase from blowing oil out the rear. There should be low pressure in the crankcase with a proper breather and cap and with low or no blowby.

You need it.

Most Model A’s mark their spot. Without this pipe, it could be a bigger spot.

Enjoy.

I guess I have to bend it back first, because I can't screw it in like that...

Did you notice a large amount of oil dripping under the oil pan? Or I should say more oil than normal.

Is this the first time that you have changed the oil on this car?

Before bending it, I would consider using red loctite after a good degrease to hold it in the proper position, unless you could put a small tack weld at the joint.

just bought the car and it was leaking a lot! They had made a drip tray under it and it was full in no time.

I have no choice not to bend it. Because if I don't bend it I can't screw it in because the bottom part touches the engine. (picture)

I bent it a bit straighter and secured it with loctite.
I only just saw your answer but thanks anyway.

Please report back on the oil leak. The pipe in place should reduce the oil leak out the back but it would be nice to confirm this.

Since you dropped the pan and this A is new to you, this would be an excellent opportunity to check the bearing clearances. You have to drop the main cap to check it so you can install the tube then. Find someone locally that knows what they are doing.

Wonder how it came out if it won't go back in ?..... and that's with the pan off so there is even more room  :)
