heard about old convertable that my uncle wasn't sure what it was and turned out to be a 48' mercury convertable that has been tucked away for 25+ years in a old airplane hanger. guy has owned it since the 50's when he drove it in high school. throwing around numbers and hoping the right ones come up. car has surface rust and seems to be real solid. enjoy a few pic's!:D

Thanks for the pics... "there still out there" will make someone a real nice car.

I had one just like that in high school, mine had twin baby appletons, Van Auken front bumper guard, elephant ears, which I see that has also, crestliner hubcaps, whitewalls, fender skirts, it was Tucson tan with a black top. Wish I still had it . I also courted my girlfriend in it and we are still married. We were married on December 5th 1953. Please keep us posted on your progress. I would sure be interested if you are not.
Thanks for the memorys. Gary

Does it have a Columbia rear? I saw that gizmo under the hood and wondered if it was the speedo ratio changer for a columbia??
Nice old car - has to be worth fixing it up.

Mart.

WOW what a car. One only dreams on finding a car like that.Did you get it. I sure hope so. What are your plans with it.

Man, that will make a beautiful restoration.Good luck on buying it.I love these kinds of posts,it means maybe there are some left for the rest of us.

Make him an offer he can't refuse (within reason). It sure would be nice to get an unmolested Merc.

My long time renter has had a nice one for many years. Older hotrod with Offy heads, intake, tuck & roll and spotlights. Been trying to trade him some rent for the car for years but hasn't worked. YET???

That looks like a great car to restore. It looks COMPLETE ! You won't have to worry about having to find those hard-to-find Mercury parts.
Good luck in buying it !
MIKE :)

hope you score on that merc it deserves to be restored on back on the road where people can see what real cars are.my first car was a 46 merc coupe with 3x2 strombergs offy heads, lowered 6" skirts,49 plymouth bumpers,smittys,57 cad hubcaps, painted 57 caddy bahama blue, mercs had 15" wheels and a double dose of chrome...good luck and keep us posted .....

gonna need to "dig" a little to purchase this little "diamond in the rough" and part of the issue is the weather: it's been around 18 degrees and crawling around and doing a real thorough inspection will prove difficult. those pictures were taken very quickly, i usually crawl around everywhere and i ight have to invest in some thermal wear before i go back to see on a purchase.
