Ford Y Block Heads - Identification needed

I bought an old car a number of years ago, and this pair of Ford or Mercury Y Block heads came loose in the car. I need help identifying them. Both have the number ECZ-C (or could be a 6) on them, which would indicate that they are possibly a matching pair. Can someone please identify them for me. What car, model, displacement and year are they off? Any help greatly appreciated.

ECZ-C heads are 56 heads. Fits 272,292 & 312s. Can be found on Fords, Mercs, Tbirds & pickups both 2v and 4v engines. Go to Mummerts, ford-y-block.com for yblock information.

ECZ-C heads were also probably considered the best heads for 1956 since the had slightly smaller combustion chambers for a higher compression ratio than the ECZ-B heads.

Thanks to all for your good information. I believed that they were off a 1956 Mercury with the 312 V8, and your comments have proved this to be correct. Thanks.

Probably an early production '56 Mercury 312 too since the heads had core plugs in the front and rear like the '54 and '55 heads had. For the most part the plugs were gone by 1956 model year.

I don't know if there was a specific date when they started making ECZ-C heads without the core plugs in front and back. I emailed John Mummert about it a long time ago, and all he said was some early 1956 Y-Blocks still had them.
I only have the old Y-Block book by James Eickman. Haven't seen the new one yet.
