Ford timepiece

I hope maybe someone will be able to help me out. I have what kind of looks like a pocketwatch with the Ford logo or script on the face. It is in a brass case and on the back it has a provision for maybe screwing in onto the dash of a vehicle. The threaded part is female and about the size of a dime or nickel. Someone told me it was used for timed races back in the Model T era. Has anyone ever seen a timepiece like this? Any ideas where I might be able to obtain some more information about it? I have never opened the case up to see who the actual manufacturer was. Thanks for any help anyone could give me

Could be any type of marketing gimmic. Here's another:

Will try to take a photo of it this weekend. It is on my dresser at my Moms house. Like I said on the face it has the Ford script and nothing else. It is old. The guy I bought it from there is one just like it in the Ford museum.

There were some clocks that were screwed onto the center of the steering wheel in place of the acorn nut . Would this watch have a similar thread?

That sounds like the type of thread I am talking about. I took a front and back photo of it over the weekend but need to know how to post the photos. The lettering on the front is as follows:
Ford
Motoring watch
Pat. Apl'd For
Made In
U.S.A
