Hey gang! Just getting curious about this... Would a Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission, fit into a 1949 Inline 6 cyl flathead? Im not planning on doing it, but my curiosity struck again!

Don't know about the '49 six cylinder, but the '49 and '50 V8 crankshaft did not have the large recess in the drive end that is needed to accept the Fordomatic torque converter hub. ..B.

okay... thank you! i was curious because i saw a '49 at a car show with an automatic. Dont know what engine though. most likely the V8.

curiosity is cool. I have a ford-o-matic and wonder if the parasitic horsepower loss would be less with a manual.

The rear crossmember in the 49-50 is different than the 51-53 too. The newer one has a mounting pad that was put in a different position in both manual and automatic models so that there was room for the automatic.
