Ford fasteners Q....

I'm preparing flywheel housing and the 7/16" fasteners (with wire holes). I've often wondered why not just use quality lock washers to hold various Ford fasteners, instead of wire ? And, why didn't Ford do so
He did use lock washers in some areas, why not most ?

I sold fasteners for years - there are no "quality" lock washers, only broken washers.
If you notice, lock washers were only used on parts that would be removed/replaced often.
Lock washers can let moisture under the head, and into the threads, and you have to remember fastener technology has come a long way since the "A"
You don't see lock washers used much on modern vehicles now - you see a lot more "flange head or washer head capscrews/nuts" both for assembly speed, but also the washer head is designed with a slight concave face to keep pressure on the assembled component.

Threaded-wire fasteners are generally used where there is danger of the bolt coming loose and backing out, where it can wreak havoc if it falls into moving machinery. The clutch/flywheel area is one place. I have seen just the bolt heads themselves pop off, and the wire prevented the head from migrating into some forbidden area.

yea wire threaded bolts ensure there is absolutely no way the bolt can loosen up

lockwashers are usually effective but i have had them come loose before.

now why would ol henry wiretie the bolts that hold the torque tube to worm drive rearend on AA trucks AND the rear worm cap on but nothing else?
