My Uncle ran a garage in Mickleton, NJ (Borden's garage)
He drove to Woodbury to the State Inspection barn. He hated the trip and the inspection. He always carried his tools so as the fix the car in line. If he had a cracked window, he would break it out and pass inspection with no side window.

He gave me a '48 beater for my first car. Me and Geers had to fix 6 major problems. New Kingpins, bald tires(He had a take-off pile t sort thru0. One thing we could not fix was the brake light switch which blew the fuse. So we used the hand brake to move in line and did not respond to the request for brake lite until the officer was really starring at the tail lites. They flashed on and we passed. Unc had is coat the windshield with kerosene so the wiped would work. Uncle was so proud of his boys. I lived in Woodbury and one winter break, I ran my '54 Merc convert up on the curb and installed duals and Smitties. He watched me. when he stopped watching, I drilled holes in the after pipes sideways and poshed a ball of brass wool past a sideways brass roofing nail. inspection he was ready for me with a line pushwire to tty and reach the brass wool. He could not find the stuffing ansd passed me We I got home, I pulled the 2 nails out and blasted the hot balls of shaving past his house>>> The now,ex wife made me sell the Merc>>>
