I've only "really" been an "Official" member of the "Splitting Hairs" committee since 2003, NOW.......I am reminded it was "Originally" KOLN every time I open the door on our 32 (Note: Avatar) & THUS the "keeper of the knowledge" for what its worth!! Sprichst du Deutsch?Gee Rock, I didn't know that. Thanks for the info. I Googled Koln and found this.
Is Koln Germany the same as cologne?
"Agrippina" was later dropped (except in Latin), and "Colonia" became the name of the city in its own right, which developed into modern German as Köln. "Cologne", the French version of the city's name, has become standard in English as well.
Here's an interesting historical account from Roman times forward.
