Does anyone out there know if there are pictures or videos documenting the assembly of a Ford car from start to finish? I have many single shots of different years on the assembly line, but none that documents the full build. Just wondering!!

Felix, there was a very professionally done animated movie put out by Ford in the '30s. I can't at the moment remember the name of the movie, but then, I also forgot half the stuff I used to remember, but the rest just slipped my mind.

Were the 37 grill bars added later or did the grill come in 2 pcs as shown in pic ????? ken ct curious mind wants to know ??

Yup, that is a '38 Standard. Ken, have another cup of coffee and look again:D. I have the 1953 50th anniversary book that Ford published as part of the 50th celebration and it has a drawing of the assembly line depicting the building of a car from start to finish, there are also a lot of photos of the assembly of various components.

That's the one that slipped my mind. It combines real stuff with animation. An animated Ford "Elf" takes you on a tour of building a car start to finish. Not a documentary, more of an educational entertainment.

If anyone knows of a good web site for early assembly line photos please let us know. This stuff is so fasinating to look at! The combination of technological innovation and workers frozen in time is just great to look at.:)

something interesting I noticed in this photo, is the first car is a deluxe(chrome grill and banjo wheel) and the second is a standard. I had always assumed that they would run a line of nothing but one type for so long, then go to another and so on. but it looks as though there are even different colored cars on the line in that picture??

Felix,

Sub-assemblies were batch produced, but when it came to the final assembly line, you're looking at specific build sheets for each car on the line. In addition, there were VIP build sheets for cars to receive special care in assembly, for delivery to customers with some special status. These cars were closely followed, all workers on notice.

Hi Allen, looks like you are becoming a real good contributor here on Fordbarn. Nice to have you posting here as well as on the EFV8 Club Forum. Just a little quiz.....do you remember were we met and discussed old Fords last October  :D

Hi John, Sure I remember... (I think!) ...Had to be at St George, but I'm gonna need more clues 'cause I can't finger out how to recognizer you just by your Avatar!

Anyway, I misplaced half the stuff I thought I forgot but the rest is there somewhere... I'm workin' on it ...I'm workin' on it...
