Good morning everyone the question I have today is are the dimensions of an early 289 ford motor with a C-4 attached the same as a late 80's 5.0 motor with an A.O.D. attached the same. What I have is a stripped 289 block and a C-4 case attached and I want to use that as a mock up motor so that when I'm done I can drop in my 5.0 and A.O.D. that's all together this is going in a 55 ford fairlane with a fat man front end on it

small block c-4, 25 5/16"

small block c-6, 33 1/2"

small block aod, 30 3/8"

small block aod- e, 31 3/16

small block length from back of block to front of fan pulley 32"

It will depend on the AOD donor the most common ones from a Mustang or passenger car will be within a 1/2" of your C4,what does cause a problem is water pumps and pulleys your 289 is shorter than the 5.0 and this will explain it and give you info on how to fix it: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=303600&highlight=ford+short+water+pump scroll down to post #5.Take a good look at the pictures I posted to see first hand. Are you also doing a rear end swap?
