Ford 1934 cowl

I have a cowl for a 1934 car (body with fixed roof) and I wounder if there is any way to tell what type of body it came from? Are there any spotwelds or anything that might differ and tell what body it was originally installed at?

If the 34 was made in Australia, it would have the number stamped on the sloped part of the Cowl. If it was a Sedan, the number stamped would start off 40S??? (the number of the Sedan, starting off with number 1. Actually, number 1 would be a 33 model. These numbers for the Sedans ran from 1 to 4283). If it was a Cowl from a Coupe, the number stamped on the Cowl would start off 40C??? (from number 1 which would be a 33 model, up to the last, being 1315). These were the only two Closed car Body Styles sold in Australia. I don't think that the 33 and 34 Fords made in the USA were stamped like this?
By the way, the 33 and 34 Ford Cowls are different where the Hood attached, as well as the channel that the "rope" fits in.
The Photo is of an Australian 34 Phaeton.

The other thing to check for is a body number tag on the right side of the sloping part of the firewall. If there is one there it will identify the original body type with a 3-digit number beginning in 7 such 770.

I checked and the tag is gone on my cowl. Does anybody know if all closed car cowls were made at the same factory, or did they come from different body manufacturer. Are there any information which body manufacturer that manufactured a certain body type in 1934. Who manufactured the different types: 3w, 5w, tudor, victoria, delivery and 4d?

If there are no holes for the body tag then you probably did not have one, which means the body was built by Ford. The tags were placed on bodies made by Ford suppliers. What body style do you have, the Vic ??? Was your car manufactured in USA or elsewhere?

I have a Vicky that came from south America, right hand driven once. However this extra cowl came from USA. I will check to see if it has any holes for the body tag.

The Fords sold during the 1930s in South America were all manufactured in the USA, be they RHD or LHD. Depending on the country, the vehicles were shipped in either kit form or as built-up complete vehicles. The kits were sent to those countries (Argentina and Brazil) with limited in-country assembly facilities where some locally-made components were used in the assembly process. At that time, none of those local Ford assembly plants had serious metal stamping capabilities so it is safe to say that both your cowls were manufactured in the USA, either by Ford or its major supplier of '33-'34 bodies, Murray.
