NOS French Flathead Block/New Generation Flathead.

$2500.00 Cash.

NOS French Flathead Block / New generation Flathead, still covered in cosmoline. The date on the block is 19-02-88, other markings on the block are 232, SFVM, and Bex 4580 015. This is the NOS block only. They were new casting from the French military built from 1962 to the early 90’s. They were cast, with very little flash, CNC machined, packed in cosmoline, and stored in crates at a French surplus military warehouse when found. They were sold by Halibrand and Motor City Flathead. I purchased this from Mark Kirby at Motor City Flathead. They use SAE specification fasteners just like the original Ford blocks as far as I know. The block is about 30 lbs.’ heavier than the originals because of a high nickel content iron and design improvements. The new blocks have the original deck height, and 3 3/16 bore, dimensions are the same as original Ford, and accepts all of the stock parts and speed equipment now available. The blocks were fully CNC machined and packaged for service replacements. The blocks were improved and there is some differences such as, 8BA (49-53) style front and 59AB style rear (early style cast in place bell housing). The block can be bored oversize the same as original Ford blocks, and with controlled core shift maybe even larger. There is an extra boss on the rear for a mechanical tach drive that will need to have a plate to cover it, or it can be ground down and plugged to look more like the originals. The blocks have thicker decks, for a stronger mounting surface. The thread bosses in the water jacket are stronger. The intake ports have been factory modified for better flow. The exhaust ports have smooth and rounded runners for better flow around the cylinders. The main caps are larger and stronger than the original, but still use standard diameter bearings. At the time these were being sold, Halibrand said (to the best of their knowledge) the block would accommodate a 4 ¼” stroke using standard 7’ connecting rods without further modifications to the block. Most of this information is what MCF & Halibrand sent when I was inquiring about the blocks, before buying this one. I am sure some of the information may have changed or more information has come out since.

I would prefer to have the block picked up. I do not have access to a carrier to ship it anymore. I have other original 8BA parts to go with this block. I live in North Central Ohio. It could be picked up on the way to or back from Hershey.

I have (2) 60-HP blocks, 2 heads, and other parts for sale.

I also have a 1940 Ford Tudor for sale with a new 1946, never run Motor City Flathead engine.
