Followup on stiching & sleeving-NOS sleeve vs current type?

The MD machine shop also said the composition of a modern sleeve has a different expansion rate than the old block cast iron. I was told that a NOS sleeve would be better because of similar composition. Sounds OK - how difficult to find a NOS sleeve for an .080 overbore?

I wouldn't think that the basic composition of the materials used in sleeves has changed enough over the years for this to be of concern. If there was a problem, it would have surfaced long ago considering how many flatheads are being rebuilt nowadays.

Yes, I wonder how well those steel sleeves, installed by the Ford factory, matched the chemistry of the iron blocks??

ford had several different sleeves through the years. some thin wall steel. I believe you will want one of the thick wall cast iron sleeves. try JobLot, Carpenter NOS. 11A-6055 wall=0.122 and is cast iron 1932-42 for example. See the green book p.230

Most of you cast iron repair sleeves are either 3/32 or 1/8 wall. I think you said this is a 8BA block. If so it's 3-3/16 std. bore. If your bore is .080 over that's 3.268, SO, if I was going to sleeve that cyl I would use a 3-1/4 = 3.250 sleeve with a 3/32 wall. The repair sleeve is semi finish on the inside, about .025 smaller that the accuwall finish bore size, so after installing the sleeve you'll have to take out about .040 to make your .080 overbore. Any auto machine shop or auto parts store that has any help that knows anything can get any size repair sleeve. Walt
