FMX transmission

Can anyone identify this? Son said it fell out of his FMX transmission when he removed the valve body and pump. Said it was about 1 1/2 inches long. Out of a 70 Mustang.

I think It is a strut for the band inside the trans. been a long time since I have been in an auto trans. , so I can not be more helpful than that

Yep, it's a strut. Front band, if I remember. He should have snugged the front band before pulling the pump. Likely wiggling the pump out moved the band around enough to let the strut fall out. It's also possible that a thrust washer or two may have slipped out of position if the input shaft was allowed to move forward. If the pump is just put back in with the washers mislocated, things will grind themselves up. May be best to check before reassembly.

Thanks for both replies. He did find out it is a band strut. I will tell him to check the thrust washers. He is a retired Air Force Chief Master Sargent and spent 30 years working with helicopters and B52s so he should be able to do this. Thanks again.
Ben
