Flywheel removal 21 stud 85hp

I am going to try and remove the flywheel on a 1937 Ford with 85 horsepower 21 stud engine. The car is original. Do I need to pull the whole engine to do this? Can I remove the flywheel from underneath?

Unfortunately, the oil pan must come off to get the flywheel off unless you happen to have the two piece oil pan used on some trucks. It might just be easier with the engine out. I have never tried taking an oil pan off with the engine mounted in the car with the transmission out. Not sure how you would hold the back of the engine up while removing the pan. I guess where there is a will, there is a way.

You would have to have the transmission out of the way anyway you go about it. I would think it would be easer to pull the engine than to pull the transmission.

yes it would, it took me 3.5 hr to get the pan off in my 36 pickup. all the stuff you need to take off to get the pan off you need to just take off the grill and the hood and rad!
