Flywheel Housing Bolts Torque

How much torque should be applied to the bolts holding the flywheel housing to the rear of the block, specifically the four bolts in a half-circle above the crankshaft that are secured with wire?

I don't know where 55# torque comes from but I would be using 35#-40# since I don't like too tight fasteners. I have installed many bolts by feel and then put a torque wrench on them to judge my feel. Try it sometime you may be surprized with the results!

Most experienced mechanics can judge the torque on bolts and nuts up to about 1/2-inch diameter. But they don't have a good feel for larger fasteners. This is from a long lost study. The results of the study are still in my brain but the source has been lost.

Use a bolt torque chart which lists the maximum torque by bolt diameter, thread type, and fastener grade.

The OP was asking about the bolts holding the flywheel housing to the block, not the bolts holding the flywheel to the crankshaft.
So for the flywheel housing to block bolts those should 35-40# and the Flywheel to Crank would be 55#
