I'm needing a flat flywheel for my 60hp to mount a t5 transmission pressure plate. Will an 85hp flywheel bolt up or will I have to have the 60hp flywheel turned down? Thanks, Marvin, Preston, CT
I have been told that it depends on what year V8 60 you have.. The '39 and later 60's used in the trucks used the same trans as an 85 hp engine, therefore they have a larger bellhousing which accommodates the large 85 hp type of clutch.
There are two flywheels, one with the recess clutch surface the other has a flat surface. Most likely are the recess flywheels used with an 8.5" clutch disc. The 40 units or pickup use a late 9" style clutch disc and the 9" style pressure plate. these flywells are harder to find. There is no reason that you cannot machine the lip off the early flywheel and re index the bolt pattern for the later 9" pressure plate, makes a lightened flywheel also.

All V8-60 engines have the same size bellhousing , the commercial transmission was where the difference was. It was sized to contain the regular car transmission gears not the smaller V8-60 gears.
