Floorboards and Kick Panels

Since my 32 open cab is a breed unto itself for many body parts (part pickup, part roadster), I decided not to risk ordering floorboards from Mac's. Pricey, too. My old ones are remade non-originals, but good for patterns. Anyone know the thickness of the originals?

My dad remade kick panels out of Masonite way back in the fifties when the originals wore out. But they don't form-fit very well. I like the ABS ones, but it doesn't look like the closed cab pickup ones will fit. Anyone found suitable material for kick panels?

Thanks. And thanks for the wiring help in another post. Got the engine started for a few seconds, but have fuel issues until I get the cab and tank on--soon.

Look up Don Henley in the V/8 rooster. He lives in IN or IL and restored a 32 roadster P/U to V/8 show standards a couple of years ago. G.M.

Not sure what was used in the 32s but we redid the interior of a 65 Comet and used a type of cardboard for some of the interior parts. There was a local interior trim shop that had the stuff, it was black and maybe 1/8" think and somewhat water resistant.

You can order panel board stock from LeBaron Bonney, if you have the old ones for a pattern. (800/221-5408). C&G (800/266-0470) shows fiberglass kick panels for '32 as B-8102340/1B, $85.

I have a copy of an Original Floor Blueprint for my 34 BB truck which I received from the Ford Benson Research Library. The drawing states the floorboard thickness is .70. Made from 5 equal ply's with the grain going lengthwise. Hope this helps.

Thanks, all. I vaguely remember the original kick panels being a type of cardboard. Flexible stuff that succumbed to our shoes poking through near the bottom (it's a pretty tight cab). The Masonite held up well, but doesn't contour. I'll check with a local shop and see what they have. And look up Don Henley, too. Hadn't thought of LeBaron Bonney. Thanks for the tips! I've found that parts listed for 32 Pickup don't always fit the Open Cab models. Sometimes the Roadster parts fit, but not always. It's a weird breed.

For floorboards, we recommend that you Use 3/8" 5 ply, preferably a marine grade, but not necessary if you treat the wood with oil or good primer & topcoat of your choice,
& for best strength, run the grain long ways, L TO R .

Use 1/8" wood veneer door skin. Nothing is better for the door and kick panels.
I used 1/2" plywood for the floor boards in my 32 sedan

Thanks. Hadn't thought of door skins. Makes sense, and they're flexible. And I do need panels for the inside of the doors.

Yes, I plan to treat the wood. Probably stain and seal.

I used Coroplast (corrogated plastic) to make kick panels for my '50, covered them with vinyl. They came out great.

For my kick panels I used "hair cell" finish .090" ABS. Has a textured grain, flat finish and moisture doesn't effect it. Can get at plastic suppliers or McMaster-Carr Supply
