Floorboard question

Is there any chance an original floorboard would have been installed without the access hole for the battery? With my A I received all the components that had been replaced decades ago during a cosmetic restoration. I was told by the seller (who bought the car in it's original condition 58 yrs ago) that he replaced the original floorboard because it lacked the access hole but said he kept it and I got it with the other parts.

Could this be possible? It's also unusual in another way. It has wood supports on the bottom instead of the metal pieces usually found. It looks very original including the welting around the edge. If I can locate the pictures I'll post them.

I really doubt that Ford installed a floorboard like you described, but I guess anything is possible. It sure sounds like someone replaced the original floorboard with a homemade one many, many years ago. I might be possible that some plant might have installed the unusual floorboard, but I doubt it. Do you have any idea where the car was assembled?
