Float a motor

I believe the front FAM engine mount is an improvement on the original design. Rear FAM, not so much - They allow too much movement.

I was (am) considering using the front FAM with the stock rear motor mounts. What would be the pros and cons of that arrangement?

Do they look like this?

These are aftermarket front mount springs from JC Whitney or Western Auto or?

That could be them, it's hard to tell for sure. There is a rubber doughnut above and below the cross-member as well. FYI, my coupe had considerable vibration on particularly on deceleration, the others I test drove we worse. I was considering getting at the clutch/flywheel to check or have some balancing done as it seemed to emanate from that part of the car. I read a post here on the Barn somewhere about bad vibs and a fellow mentioned that the most important thing was to isolate the vibs from the frame. I replaceced the castle nut on the front with a nyloc nut so I could experiment with how tight is was without worrying about getting a cotter pin in there. Taking some tension off the front mount made a huge difference... I was very happy.:)

I'm using a B front motor mount and FAM on the rear. After 16 years, the rubber becomes hard and the holes are sloppy. Installed new bolts and rubber pucks last week as a part of result of normal wear and tear. I'm not sure I could even try to duplicate this::

With the float a motor mounts my engine shifted far enough forward so that the engine pan bolts could not be removed. I went back to the original mounts and can't tell that the vibration is any worse without them. I will stick with the original mounts.
