Flathead V8 Dist. on Ford Fours?

Looking at old pictures of Models A on the net and saw something different, an A with a flathead V8 distributor mounted on top. This was probably chosen for the advance feature. I really like the advance with vacuum retard of those early flatheads and would love to use one if they work. Were V8 Distributors used often or was this a desperation move that may have worked poorly? Thanks: Fred A

I've seen that photo from Life magazine and wondered the same thing. Appears to be an OHV conversion. May have not been for dual ignition though as only 2 wires are coming out of either end.... Large image here for inspection...

I do like that '37 Buick convertible in back...

Notice the Ballast resistor on the firewall... as far as I know, Ford was the only company to use a ballast resistor on a 6-volt system.

I have never seen that, nor even heard of it, until I saw it posted in the V8 Section. If I remember right, nobody else mentioned ever seeing that either.
It doesn't seem to have a line hooked to the vacuum fitting.
MIKE :)
